What is the Gacha Pity System?

The pity system is a player-friendly mechanic in gacha games that guarantees a rare drop after a certain number of pulls without one. It consists of two key thresholds:

• Soft Pity: A threshold (e.g., pull 74 in Genshin Impact) where the drop rate begins increasing dramatically with each subsequent pull. This is where most players get their 5-star.
• Hard Pity: The absolute guarantee threshold (e.g., pull 90 in Genshin Impact) where you are guaranteed a 5-star drop at 100% probability.

How Soft Pity Works

Before soft pity, the base rate is very low (0.6% in Genshin Impact). Once you cross the soft pity threshold, the rate increases by approximately 6% per pull. This means:

• Pull 74: ~6.6% chance
• Pull 75: ~12.6% chance
• Pull 76: ~18.6% chance
• Pull 80: ~42.6% chance
• Pull 90: 100% (hard pity)

Because of soft pity, the average pulls for a 5-star is around 62, not 90. Most players never actually reach hard pity.

Understanding the 50/50 System

In most gacha games, when you get a 5-star from a featured banner, there is a 50% chance it will be the featured character, and a 50% chance it will be a standard character. This is called the "50/50".

• Win the 50/50: You get the featured character. Next 5-star is another 50/50.
• Lose the 50/50: You get a standard character. Your next 5-star is guaranteed to be the featured character.

In the worst case scenario, you may need up to 180 pulls (two full pity cycles) to guarantee a specific featured character.

How to Use This Calculator

1. Select your game: Choose your gacha game from the dropdown. Each game has its own pity parameters pre-configured.
2. Enter current pity: Input your current pity counter (pulls since last 5-star). Check your in-game wish history to find this number.
3. Set guarantee status: If you lost the previous 50/50, select "Guaranteed". Otherwise, select "50/50".
4. Set target copies: Enter how many copies you want (1 for C0, 7 for C6 in Genshin terms).

Reading the Results

Pity Progress Meter

The visual progress bar shows where you currently stand in the pity cycle. The golden zone marks the soft pity region where rates spike. This helps you visualize how close you are to the high-probability zone.

Probability Milestones

The milestone table shows how many additional pulls you need to reach key probability thresholds (25%, 50%, 75%, 90%, 99%). For example, "50% at 8 pulls" means you have a coin-flip chance of getting a 5-star within the next 8 pulls.

Pity Rate Curve

The rate curve chart visualizes how your per-pull probability changes across the entire pity cycle. You can clearly see the dramatic rate spike at the soft pity threshold. This is why it is called "soft pity" — the rate softly increases rather than jumping to 100%.

Cumulative Probability Chart

This chart shows the cumulative probability of getting at least one 5-star as pulls increase. It follows an S-curve shape — nearly flat during the base rate period, then rapidly climbing during soft pity.

Planning for Constellations

Many players aim for specific constellation levels (C1-C6) which require multiple copies of the same character. The calculator supports multi-copy planning, accounting for the statistical reality that each copy resets your pity and 50/50 status. Getting C6 (7 copies) typically requires an average of ~650 pulls in Genshin Impact, though the variance is significant.

Tips for Efficient Pulling

• Save for guaranteed: If you are on 50/50, save enough for two full pity cycles (180 pulls / 28,800 Primogems) to guarantee the featured character.
• Track your pity: Always know your current pity count and guarantee status before pulling.
• Soft pity is your friend: Most 5-stars come in the soft pity range (74-82). Plan your resources accordingly.

Does pity carry over between banners?

In most games, pity carries over between featured banners of the same type (character to character, weapon to weapon) but does NOT carry over between different banner types.

What happens if I get a 5-star before soft pity?
